How to write a CV that Ethiopian employers actually read
Most CVs we see are too long, too vague and written for every job at once. The good news is that the fix is simple, and it does not need a designer or a template.
Lead with what you did, not what you were responsible for
A line like "Responsible for reporting" tells a hiring manager almost nothing. "Built the monthly board report and cut preparation time from ten days to four" tells them how you work and what changed because of you. Rewrite every bullet so it starts with a verb and ends with a result.
Keep it to two pages
If you have more than fifteen years of experience, summarise the early roles in a single line each. Nobody hiring a finance manager needs the details of an internship from 2009.
Tailor the top third
The top of your CV is the only part every reader sees. Write a three line summary for the specific role you are applying for, and move your most relevant experience up.
- Name, city and a professional email
- A three line summary for this role
- Experience, most recent first, with results
- Education and certifications
- Languages, with your level for each
Leave out what does not help you
You do not need a photo, your date of birth, marital status or a list of references on your CV. Share references when a company asks for them.
